Best time of year to play Bandon Dunes
The trade-off at Bandon is rain against price. In our 2021–2025 modelled record, July and August were by far the driest months, while November through March were wet most days. The resort's own green fees follow the same pattern: winter rounds cost a fraction of summer rounds. There is no single "best" month—only the one that fits how much rain and cost you will accept.
July–August · driest, warmest, most expensive
These months averaged 0.4–1 days per month with at least 1 mm of precipitation and daily highs around 68–69°F. They fall in the resort's top rate band ($375 per round for resort guests in 2026–27). Dry does not mean calm: average daytime wind barely changed from month to month in this record, so summer is no escape from the breeze.
May–June and September–October · the compromise months
Wet days ranged from 4.2–10.4 per month. September was the driest of the four (5.6 wet days) but is priced as peak season; May and October were wetter (7.4 and 10.4) and one rate band lower ($340 resort guest). October also had the lowest average daytime wind in the sample, 8 mph.
November–March · cheapest, expect rain most days
These months averaged 15.4–20.2 wet days per month, with December the wettest (20.2). Highs averaged about 53°F in January. Resort-guest rates drop to $130 in December and January. If you go in winter, plan for wet-weather golf rather than hoping to avoid it.
Walking-only: why weather matters more here
All courses at the resort are walking only, according to the official green-fee page. The resort FAQ says riding carts are available only for guests with a documented permanent disability, arranged in advance and with a caddie. Complimentary push carts are offered, but the resort notes sand and the lack of paths can be hard on motorised pull carts. Caddies are encouraged; the FAQ lists $125 per bag, per round plus gratuity. Pack waterproof shoes and layers you can walk 18 holes in—and a spare pair if you are playing more than one round.
Resort access, rates & rain checks
The 2026–27 rate table charges day guests more than resort guests ($425 vs $375 in summer). Day guests booking more than 21 days ahead for April to mid-November pay a premium rate and tee off after 10:00 a.m. Under the rain-check policy, if you choose not to play because of weather you must contact the golf shop on property and receive a voucher; once you tee off, you are committed to the round. Confirm current terms on the official green-fee page and resort FAQ before booking (checked 2026-11-01).
Bandon Dunes weather by month
Five-year averages for 2021–2025 from ERA5 reanalysis, requested at our Bandon Dunes course point. ERA5 is a coarse regional model: the returned grid point is 43.25°N, 124.25°W, and a cell that size mixes coast and inland terrain. Treat these as a regional guide, not an on-course weather station or 30-year climate normals. Coastal wind at the course is likely to differ from the grid value.

Wet days are the average number of days per month with at least 1 mm of precipitation, not the chance of rain on your trip. Wind is the mean 10 m speed across daytime hours (8–10 mph by month), not gusts or wind at ball height. Green fees are the resort's published 2026–27 resort-guest rates and can change.
Wind, your tee time and the Tour study
For an upcoming round, use the hourly wind, gusts and rain in the live forecast above rather than monthly averages. The five-hour comparison can help you choose between available tee times; it cannot guarantee a calmer round.
Bandon Dunes does not host a PGA Tour event, so we have no tournament scoring history for it. Our independently reviewed PGA Tour wind and tee-time wave study found about 0.93 extra strokes per Tour player for each 10 km/h difference in wind between waves (95% CI 0.71–1.14), across 456 event-rounds. That is a Tour-wide association, not a Bandon or amateur scoring forecast, and the independent review covers that study only—not this trip guide.
